Book Tour for Baby Daddy by Kendall Ryan (REVIEW)

A fortuitous meeting leads to a unique offer and a few unexpected complications in this sexy romance full of scorching encounters and chuckle-worthy moments.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of Baby Daddy by Kendall Ryan, along with my impressions of it, then add this standalone story to your bookshelf too!

We met in a trapped elevator.
Emmett was on his way to work, sophisticated and handsome in his tailored suit and tie.
I was on my way to the sperm bank. Awkward, right?
At thirty-five, my life hadn’t taken the path I thought it would and I was tired of waiting—I wanted a baby. And I was ready to take matters into my own hands to make it happen.
After our ill-fated elevator encounter, Emmett insisted on taking me to dinner—he also insisted on something else—that I ditch my plan involving a turkey baster and let him do the job. He would be my baby daddy. He was a wealthy and powerful CEO with little interest in diapers or playdates. And since he didn’t want kids, I’d be on my own once his bun was in my oven, free to go my own way.
But once his baby was inside me, it was like a switch had been flipped, and I got a whole lot more than I ever bargained for.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Readers looking for a bit of afternoon delight will get just that with this charming and sexy romance resulting from an unforgettable introduction and a surprising offer with unexpected complications.  From the moment two seemingly content individuals meet fireworks result and truths are ultimately revealed in a story that piled on the warm fuzzies while charming me even more with each turn of the page.

Emmett Smith is a man devoted to his job and to indulging in every woman who catches his attention.  He has no desire to commit or start a family, especially after the debacle that his parent’s marriage became.  Their poor example left its indelible mark on him and has him embracing only the most superficial of interactions that leave him only momentarily satisfied.  He’s a bit arrogant when readers first meet him, a bit too quick to indulge in bacchanalian delights, but you still can’t help but be drawn to his charming and sensual nature.  Though everyone around him is happily settling down he’s convinced himself he’s happy...at least until he meets a woman on a mission to get pregnant.  He’s immediately drawn to her and makes an unexpected offer that brings them closer together and gives him a glimpse of what true happiness can be...if only he’s willing to put his heart on the line.  Emmett seems a bit immature at the start but grows as the story progresses.  His offer to Jenna at first seems to be out of the goodness of his heart, but it’s actually more because he has an itch he wants scratched where she’s concerned.  The more time he spends getting to know her as a person though the more involved his heart becomes and the more meaningless he sees his current life being.  Emmett comes to realize what’s really important and becomes a man, a delicious hero with a heart of gold that slowly emerges the longer he’s with Jenna.

Jenna Porter had a rough childhood too courtesy of a father who walked away without a backward glance.  His actions tainted how she views men and has her doubting the existence of love.  Everyone around her seems to have found someone, but she’s had no luck and is tired of waiting.  With her biological clock ticking she decides to have a child on her own, but on the day she’s set to do the deed, fate intervenes and lands her right next to Emmett.  Their mutual attraction is crackling and soon has them agreeing to a pregnancy plan that’s supposed to be casual but slowly becomes immensely more important and real. The more time Jenna spends with Emmett the more she sees him as a part of the picture that she always saw for her future.  She starts off wanting to do it all on her own, but quickly comes to enjoy the support and care that Emmett lavishes on her.  With their time together coming to an end her heart becomes ever more entwined in moments of heartbreaking realizations that had me aching for both of them.  Jenna’s a strong-willed heroine, likable and easy to relate to as her biological clock concerns are ones many older women have. She’s determined and more than capable of sticking up for herself in her combustible relationship with Emmett and it’s their verbal foreplay and playful banter that made them such a dynamic duo.

This was an enjoyable read that was somewhat predictable but no less entertaining thanks to its crackling main couple and their numerous erotically-charged encounters.  Their connection may have started out as strictly physical but it soon took on a deeper meaning and pulled at my heartstrings while watching them fall in love and struggle to admit the truth.  A bit of unnecessary melodrama late in the story caused a bit of a roadblock to their HEA, but it ultimately made me love Emmett all the more for his romantic and heartfelt groveling.  From the first page to the last this story pulled me in wholeheartedly as two people warred with their hearts and minds to turn one woman’s dream into a family full of love.  Readers will find humor, witty banter, and blush-worthy interludes along the way in this surprisingly sentimental and sexy standalone romance.

My rating for this is a B+/A-
